Safrea is a voluntary, non-profit and public benefit association for professional freelancers in southern Africa. All applicants are vetted before being awarded membership of the association.
If you want to join Safrea, the best way to apply for membership is to fill in our online application form.
Before you fill out the application, be sure to read the membership criteria in order to understand the membership category for which you're eligible. We suggest you select 'Applicant' and we'll advise you which category is the most appropriate, based on your freelance working career.
Safrea is a valuable resource – be it needing help with information, a source or contact when on deadline, or a competent someone to take on some work, advice on work related issues or simply someone to commiserate with you.

The Safrea National Exco and Oversight Committees 2013/14 have put together a strategic development plan (SDP) to be implemented over the next two years. The aim is to develop Safrea into a streamlined and effective organisation that can serve its members to their best advantage.
Advances in technology have made it easier to work from home and the communications field is particularly suited to this. At the same time, more and more skilled professionals have found themselves out of work as companies have tightened their belts. Rather than carry the costs of staff positions, employers are turning to freelancers or contractors to fill their requirements.
The Safrea constitution underwent an intensive review during the first quarter of 2012, resulting in a revised constitution being issued during May 2012.

Safrea is run by volunteer committee members and one part-time administrator. The committee structure is as follows:
The Safrea administrator emails reminders and invoices to members when their fees are due. If you have not received a reminder and think one is due, email firstname.lastname@example.org to request information.
