How do I join SAFREA?
If you want to join SAFREA, the best way to apply for membership is to fill in our online application form.
Before you fill out the application, be sure to read our membership criteria in order to understand the membership category for which you're eligible. Please select the membership category 'Applicant' and indicate in the notes field your desired category of membership. We'll advise you which category is the most appropriate based on your freelance working career.
You will be asked to send examples of your work and also advise two trade references. Since SAFREA is a professional association, this is a condition of membership application - no exceptions for anyone - to be fair to all.
Once you have applied, you'll receive an automated email to say that we've received your application.
We may ask for further information to support your application within a few days.
Once you have supplied additional information, we aim to give you an answer within a week after our membership committee has reviewed your application. Waiting times vary depending on the workload of the committee members, all of whom are volunteers.
Membership fees are payable immediately once your acceptance as a member has been advised. Once membership fees have been received, you will be given access to the benefits of membership and your Media Card will be posted to you.
Please remember that while we provide a platform for freelance employers to connect and engage with our members, SAFREA is not an employment agency. We do offer advice or share job opportunities. Our primary goal is to support the freelance economy and build a flourishing community of successful media freelancers in southern Africa.
