The SAFREAN: December 2017

The SAFREAN
Bringing you the latest news in South African freelancing

MESSAGE FROM SAFREA

Dear Safreans,

As the year draws to a close, we'd like to thank each and every one of you for your continued support. You are what this professional association is all about. Freelancing isn't easy, and having a community that understands the unique challenges can be a huge help.

For those of you who are taking some time off to enjoy the festive season, we wish you a relaxing holiday. And for our members who are working right through, we hope that there will be at least a glass of something nice and a mince pie or two on your desk.

This month, our awesome photographs have been provided by River Leask, a young creative from the Windy City in the Eastern Cape. If you are a photographer and want to add your work to our growing SAFREA image library, please get in touch with our social media manager, Laura Dubber

Here's to a wonderful 2018.

THAT'S A WRAP: SAFREA IN 2017

This year has been a busy one for SAFREA, with a number of exciting collaborations and events. One of the stand-out successes had to be the Freelancing for Success conference co-hosted by our Eastern Cape chapter and Nelson Mandela University.

UPCOMING EVENTS IN 2018

Get your new diaries ready for exciting coffee clubs across the regions, workshops, seminars, talks and more. SAFREA will once again be at marketing, advertising and design expo Madex in June, and we've got LOTS of other plans up our sleeve.

MEMBER SPOTLIGHT

This month we’re featuring Daphne Schwab, a Gauteng-based freelance transcriptionist extraordinaire.

Retirement isn't for everyone – and it's certainly not for Daphne. When the time came to close the door at her company, she simply stepped through a new one as a transcription specialist. Since then, she has tackled everything from business and political interviews to disciplinary hearings and more.

You can read more about Daphne here.

If you'd like to nominate someone to be next month's featured member, give us a shout!

FREELANCING TIP OF THE MONTH

At SAFREA, we're always on the lookout for time-saving tricks and business insights to help our members take their careers to the next level.

This month, we're talking about a tool that helps you get paid. What is it? The Gentle Reminders Club, a free business community service that uses ratings and emoticons to encourage clients to pay on time, every time.

You'll find more details on the SAFREA website under the Tips and Tricks section.
