I have worked as a journalist and copy editor for various print publications and online platforms both as a freelancer and a full-time employee. I have covered the following beats; entertainment (This Is Africa, 24.com and JHBLive), news (Corruption Watch), business (Banker SA and CFO magazines) and opinion (Journ Africa). I am qualified journalist and I hold a Journalism and Media Studies Honours degree from Rhodes University where I specialised in writing and editing. I have also written press releases, advertorials, produced newsletters and covered events and conferences. As a copy editor I have worked for a weekly women’s interest magazine called Move, on a freelance basis, where I sub and proofread the magazine’s copy on InDesign before it goes to print. More recently, I have proofread a small booklet for Oxfam SA titled Women and the South African Economy.
I have digital content production and digital copywriting experience. I have developed and implemented digital content strategies for a range of TV shows while I was working for South African broadcasters such as e.tv and DStv. On a strategy level it meant coming up with content plans and digital marketing campaigns across varies digital platforms such as websites, mini websites, mobile websites and social media platforms such as Facebook and Twitter. This would include long term and short term strategies. I was also responsible for the execution of these strategies which meant I would produce and write the content. For example, I was responsible for the blogging, creating SEO content and memes, writing promotional content, writing short form and long form articles. I have worked with content management systems such as Joomla and Wordpress (websites) and Tweetdeck and Houtsuite (social media).
