Celebrating life as a digital nomad...
What I love most about being a freelance content specialist is the opportunity it gives me to work with words anywhere in the world! In 2016, this digital nomad lifestyle gave me the freedom to work from a cafe in Canada, a beachside bar in Mexico, and a rooftop terrace surrounded by the majestic volcanoes of Guatemala. I was very privileged to travel through Central and South America with my husband, whilst continuing to offer my writing, editing and social media management services to clients in South Africa. We arrived back on home soil in February 2017 and started a new kind of adventure, living in eMalahleni and re-entering the world of full-time freelancing.
A little more about me...
After obtaining my Bachelor of Journalism degree from Rhodes University, I headed into the world of work, first as a community newspaper reporter, and then writer and later, editor of two B2B publications, Supermarket & Retailer and Wholesale Business. After a year as the communications officer for a local NGO, JAM South Africa, I decided to take the plunge and start freelancing full-time. My business, Red Pen Communications, has grown from strength to strength since May 2014, offering writing services to an array of clients in various industries - from mining and construction to solar power, cycling events marketing and social development. In 2015, I also delved into script writing, completing an exciting project with Urban Brew for a Disney tweens show. In 2017 and 2018, I was commissioned as the script writer for How Do I Look? South Africa Season 1 and 2, an NBC Universal production that has been airing on E! Entertainment since November 2017.
