A unique blend of experience of writing, media technologies and management, in print, broadcast and digital media; having worked in numerous roles and organisations in Africa and Europe:

  • Television (general and news) reporter, Sport News Presenter, Television Editor - SWABC
  • Political Reporter, Managing Editor - Windhoek Observer (covered the Namibian independence process, including elections, Constitutent Assembly and Parliament.
  • Freelance journalist - The Argus, Weekend Argus, Cape Times, Sunday Times, South
  • Sub-Editor - Evening Post, Cape Times (worked on the redesign and relaunch of the Cape Times in 1994/5 and deployment of QPS)
  • Setup and managed IONS, the fore-runner of IOL (, with Mark Shuttleworth and Andrew Morris.
  • Digital Media Consultant - Info-Age - started my own digital media consultancy, helping SME business understand the internet and integrate digital technologies into their business processes; while also writing freelance technology articles for the Cape Times, page layout for Peninsula Times, research projects for Mweb and assisting the Daily Despatch move to QPS technology.
  • Technical Editor - Fasthosts Internet, BBC (UK) - co-ordinated technical and design workgroups acoss 6 content-commissioning divisions of the BBC.
  • Digital Project Manager - for various European organisations, in the private, government and NGO sectors - including the British Home Office, Financial Services Authority (FSA), Care Quality Commission (CQC), BP, Whitbread Plc, Truvo (Belgium), Learning and Skills Improvement Service (LSIS) ... managing the build and operation of large content management systems.

Returned to South Africa (2014), where I live and work in Cape Town, conceptualising and building digital prototypes, writing occasional news and opinion pieces for print and digital publications and chatting with Nietzsche while wandering around in the mountains.
