I have worked as a journalist for almost 30 years, most recently as Assistant Editor on the Cape Argus. I have an honours degree in Journalism and Linguistics from Rhodes University. I was one of the many Independent staffers who accepted voluntary retrenchment at the end of 2016. Although I worked as Assistant Editor for the latter part of my career, my focus has always been on the production of news, including copytasting, laying out pages, headline and poster writing and, of course, copy editing. Last year I completed a non-fiction manuscript, detailing my recovery after a massive stroke in 2012. I am now working on a second manuscript, with help from Mike Nicols' and Claire Strombeck's Writers' Masterclass. I am a member of the Professional Editors' Group. My background is in news but I am open to other areas of the publishing world.
