I completed both my undergraduate and postgraduate degrees in Journalism at the University of Pretoria from 2010 to 2013. Thereafter, I worked as a journalist for Mediak Media Consulting where I wrote for the print and online versions of The Media magazine, The Wits Business School Journal, and The Nepad Annual. In that time I also wrote a few articles for the Mail & Guardian as a freelancer. I returned to South Africa in December 2016 after teaching English to Japanese returnee children in Tokyo, Japan for two years. Upon my return, I have found a few freelance writing jobs through former contacts. Being confronted with the business side of writing has been overwhelming and so I would appreciate the guidance that would come with joining an association like SAFREA. I presently have but a handful of freelance writing work which is currently my only source of income. As I prefer the lifestyle freelancing has to offer, I would like to continue with this kind of work and expand my client base. Becoming a member of SAFREA would be help me do this as it would allow me to be in contact with like-minded individuals who can share their experiences and offer their advice.
