Profession:Writer, Copywriter, Publicist, Journalist

I am a freelance writer based in Cape Town, and I have been freelancing since 1 July 2014.

Prior to freelancing, I have been a mainstream journalist for eight years, and was exposed to reporting across all beats.

From June 2014 till to date, I have been writing (on a freelance basis) general news for SA News (, a government news agency which now falls under the new Department of Communications (formerly GCIS). I report all matters coming out of Parliament through Parliamentary sittings, Ministerial briefings etc. I also write for two other publications within the Department, Public Sector Manager magazine, targeted at senior leaders in government, and Vukuzenzele newspaper, which is sent out to communities in all provinces.

Between June 2014 and February 2015, I wrote for AGI - Agenzia Giornalistica Italia Spa – an Italian news agency from Rome. As a freelance writer for AGI, I wrote breaking stories coming out of South Africa across various fields, from energy (including mining and gas), business, government relations and other stories that are newsworthy on the international news stage.

Between August 2014 and February 2015, I wrote for the Small Business Connect newspaper, which was at the time funded by the Department of Trade and Industry. This publication profiled the SME sector, from new developments on the empowerment front to profiling SME success stories.

Between May 2013 and June 2014, I wrote for SA News on a full-time bases and covered the economic cluster in government (Finance, Mining, economic development, Reserve Bank, Stats SA, Tourism, ICT and Human Settlements).

Before joining SA News, I wrote for The Times newspaper (August 2009 – April 2013), one of South Africa’s biggest daily newspapers, and reported on general news focussing on politics, local government and, occasionally, business, economy and tourism.

I sharpened my journalism skills at the Sunday Times (June 2005 – July 2013) after joining the newspaper as an intern in 2005.

I hold directorships in several companies. This includes WritersBloc (PTY) Ltd, the Legislature Monitor and The Floating Boat (Pty) Ltd.

The company that is currently active is Writersbloc (, a content management agency which i head. We have done traditional and digital/ social media content for several clients. Some ask us to also do their PR.

SAFREA is a Registered Non-Profit Organisation (NPO 114-297).
