Suzy Bernstein has been involved in various facets of media. Bernstein was part of the Afrapix collective in the 1990s, and also worked at the Newtown Film and Television School, which was established to build capacity among aspirant Black film-makers who had been denied access to the industry during apartheid.

She has worked as a freelance photographer for over 20 years and was the official photographer of the National Arts Festival in Grahamstown for eight years.

She has strong links in the film industry and has worked in various capacities in the film industry, including working on set as a stills photographer.  

As well as this, she has written and had several articles published in the local media. She was one of the writers in the book "I Want To Go Home Forever" published by Wits University Press.
