I became a freelance journalist in August 2006 having clocked up a 20 year career working fulltime in newspapers and magazines. Currently, I am a senior feature writer contracted to The Star newspaper. I also write, on contract, for South African Tourism, contributing towards its global media exposure in newspapers, magazines and website. Among the publications I have contributed to are: Femina magazine, Reader's Digest, Sawubona magazine, Top Billing magazine, The Weekender newspaper, Health News (Business Day), The Tourist (Business Day), Mail & Guardian, Sunday Independent, Sydney Morning Herald (Australia), The Age (Australia), New York Post and The Star.
Prior to going freelance I was Johannesburg bureau chief of You magazine, a position I held for five years and where I wrote a wide variety of features, focussing on everything from personality profiles and human interest stories to investigative business pieces and socio-political issues.
Before joining You I was at The Star, where I held a number of senior positions over the 13 years I was there. I was Pretoria bureau chief during the late 1990's, then for just over a year served as TV editor of the Tonight section. On leaving The Star I was senior feature writer, again covering all manner of story.
In addition, I've co-authored a book 'Rocky Rioter Teargas Show' (Struik 2001), and won several awards for my work.
I am proficient in taking photographs and am also experienced at editing copy.
