I was as a medical representative for over a decade. Then I started my own company and sold products on behalf of various health care companies. After 10 years plus I sold that business and have done various distance learning courses trying to find what I want to do. They include magazine journalism, creative writing, web design, blogging, photography, social media, raw cuisine, pant-based chef and vegan pastry chef.
To support myself while studying I turned our house into a guest house. Have since sold that house and now let out a room in our new home. Am a Superhost on Airbnb.
I have three blogs -
Green Point Greenie - is a travel blog. It's a 'blog we like' on the Lonely Planet website. It consists of short posts with pics and information about places my husband and I have visited. Recently I've been sharing our travels aboard our Dutch steel motor cruiser on the inland waterways of Europe. It gets mentions on site like the Dutch Barge association. It's very much a niche blog.
Greenie Dresses for Less - is an eco-fashion blog. I show how to re-cycle and upcycle old clothes and even electrical cable into new fashion items. I also have tutorials for very easy sewing projects and free sewing patterns. It gets a mention every now and again in local and foreign magazines. And the odd post get's a flurry of Pinterest sharing. On a good day this blog reaches over 1600 hits. It averages beween 9K and 15K hits a month.
Green and Vegan - is my newest baby. It's all about inspiring people to see plant based-food in a new light. I work mainly on Instagram and show food we make. My husband and I present plant-based pop up dinners at our home in Green Point Village in Cape Town. We serve a multi-course dinner incluing a vegan cheese board to a mix of local and visiting guests as we market on international platforms. Green & Vegan has only 5 star reviews. It has grown from nowhere to nearly 1K Instagram followers in 6 months and continues to grow. We've been interviewed on Cape Talk three times and had numerous write ups locally and internationally.
