Kate Thompson Davy is a full-time freelance writer based in Cape Town. Her writing focuses on technology, business, and finance. Until September 2024, Kate was the weekly technology columnist for Business Day, and monthly technology columnist for Brainstorm magazine – but recently resigned these posts to take on a behind-the-scenes editing role with an investment bank. She’s freelanced exclusively since 2013, contributing articles to clients like the Financial Mail, CFO South Africa magazine, SA Homeowner magazine, the Old Mutual news portal, The South African Association of Business Schools, and The Sunday Times, among others.

Before 2013, Kate worked in newsrooms in roles such as the news editor of Grazia and online editor of the Financial Mail. She has a Masters in Journalism from the University of the Witwatersrand and a Bachelor of Journalism from Rhodes University. Kate hails from the Eastern Cape originally, specifically Morgan Bay and East London.
