Dear Safreans,

Any organisation is only as strong as its members. We know that the ability to retain members is just as important as getting new members. During my recent meeting with the regional chairs, the topic of retention was paramount. They will certainly be in contact with you soon.

That means you need to do your part as well – participate in the webinars, Zoom meetings or coffee clubs. We can only help if we know what is required from you. That means that you need to give us feedback to help us build the organisation.  With that said, please check if all your information on the Safrea website is correct – and update it, if needed. Also support each other by searching for specific freelancers on the website.

The new Exco

The new Exco was voted in and all portfolios have been filled. They are working hard at bringing you an organisation that does not pay lip service, but will truly help you grow as freelancers in various fields of expertise. Our Professional Development committee will be contacting you soon to see how we can assist you.

Shaun Harris and Alexis Grewan have been working tirelessly in presenting a submission to the public hearings on the Copyright and the Performers’ Protection Amendment Bills for all freelancers. This has been a long and tiring couple of years, but Shaun assures us that the committee is listening, and we will help draft a bill that will be fair to all.  The submission took place in middle August. If you missed it, please read all about it here – SAFREA and COPYRIGHT – Know the Language and Your Rights.

Building a strong Safrea

Let’s build Safrea into a formidable force to help us face challenges such as the Covid-19 lockdown last year. Working together will enable us to do that. I want to wish all women a happy Women’s Month. As per the saying, “When you strike a woman, you strike a rock.”
