I began my journalism career in the UK as an editor and writer with a national charity and publisher, where I gained a solid grounding in all aspects of publishing.
After moving to South Africa, I worked in marketing and then as Press Officer at the University of the Witwatersrand, before going freelance, my first major client being a major mining house. Over time, my work expanded to include academic editing and writing for several publications in the UK, South Africa, Kenya and Nigeria, across a range of fields.
I also became closely involved in animal welfare, serving in various roles with the SPCA – including senior inspector, society manager, and regional secretary – and later as both Provincial Director and Training Director on the Board of the NSPCA. I was the NSPCA’s official spokesperson for many years and was responsible for communications, publicity, and fundraising, and represented it as a trustee on the National Thoroughbred Trust. These were busy but very rewarding years.
I returned to media work as a freelancer for Media24 and Caxton, then took up a permanent role at Media24 as chief copy editor and writer in the consumer magazines division.
Freelancing eventually called again, and I joined Safrea, later serving three years on Exco as Chair of the Gauteng South Region. I then headed up the Professional Development portfolio for a further two years, before being elected Vice-Chair at the 2024 Exco elections.
Away from work, I enjoy spending time with my animals, playing Scrabble, tackling crossword puzzles, and listening to music.
