Dear Safreans,
As you know, Safrea’s Southern African Freelance Media Industry and Rates Report has been an invaluable tool in understanding the evolving nature of the freelance media and communications industry. The report has provided critical data and information on the composition of the sector, the challenges faced, and possible interventions. It assists freelancers in benchmarking their remuneration and it generates much-needed discussion.
Due to various challenges, Exco and the Oversight Committee (OSC) jointly decided to delay the survey with a year, until next year. Safrea intends to conduct the survey every two years thereafter. The extra time will allow us to raise the much-needed funds to present a bigger and better report to you. This report will be another significant step towards better understanding and supporting the freelance media and communications industry.
Additional funds will also help us to actively promote the survey among the wider freelancing fraternity. I strongly encourage all members and non-members in the industry to participate in this survey. Your participation is essential to ensure its credibility and success. The data gathered will be used to support and promote the growth of the gig economy.
By participating in the survey, you will contribute to the creation of a more transparent and fairer work environment for freelancers. A sound gig economy is becoming increasingly significant in our changing work landscape.
Yours in freelancing,
Whitemore Masudi Ngwira, Chairperson
