Peter Ucko is a specialist document designer, writer, editor, actor and broadcaster. Above all, he is fun to work with. He is often “accused” of being too passionate. “I say ‘I do’ but I never make promises.”  https://safreachronicle.co.za/does-your-promise-have-value/

Please tell us more about what you do and how long you’ve been a freelancer.

I stopped being formally employed and salaried in the late 1970s, but even before that I was freelancing and running side-activities in many areas. Always trying to “Do a little good in this Ole World” (Davey Crocket – John Wayne in The Alamo – see here   https://safreachronicle.co.za/moments-in-movies-that-changed-my-life/) and make enough money to put my kids through private schooling and be happy.

What does a day in your life look like?

Oh dear, oh dear. There are a few constants. Ablutions, breakfast, dinner, sleep. Everything else is different and exciting every day. Occasionally I rip out spontaneity. Mostly, really.

Where/how do you find inspiration?

Inspiration is all over the place. It is a reflection of attitude. Occasionally it pops out of my head, but I don’t always know what triggers it.

What advice do you have for other freelancers?

“Form good habits and become their slave” (Og Mandino in The Greatest Salesman in the World). Just do it again and again and again and never miss. It’s like compound interest. The little things grow and eventually explode.

How long have you been a Safrean, and why are you a member of Safrea?

Five or six years. I was invited by a member to join.

What is your work/life motto?

“Do a Little Good in this Ole World” is important. I have several philosophies for how I live. I’ll share but one: “Affect at least one person’s life in a positive way every day.” That is easier than one might think.
