This was the discussion point at the monthly Gqeberha (PE) Coffee Club in late November, led by local Facebook guru, Chantal Bezuidenhout. She shared the following key points:
- Value yourself – believe that you have valuable skills and a contribution to make.
- Tell existing and potential customers what you can do for them.
- Open a business (you are a business) Facebook page, which is different to the one that features your children, dog and last fishing trip.
- Be professional – hire a designer (preferably a Safrean) if graphics is not your thing.
- Optimise the content for search – will people find you?
- Ask current clients for reviews – the best advertisement ever!
- Share content that your audience wants to see – not clever mouse videos.
- Boost your posts and run ads – Facebook is in the business of making money, not helping you to earn a living.
- If you want to be seen you have to advertise.
- Leverage your network.
